M: Hi, Mary. What were you doing this weekend?
W: I helped my friend with her gardening.
M: It must be very interesting. I know you are good at gardening. When did you start gardening?
W: When I was seven, my science teacher encouraged our class to take care of fruits and vegetables in the school garden. I have been in love with gardening since then.
M: Wonderful. Do you have a garden yourself?
W: No, but I have grown some plants and flowers on my balcony. They grow very well now. Whenever my family and friends come to visit me, I would invite them to have a look at my balcony. It is the best part of my apartment.
翻译：How do you get the seeds?
电脑回答：Well, I usually buy seeds from the flower market near my apartment. It takes me only twenty minutes to walk from my apartment to the market. I like to spend a whole morning or afternoon there, talking to sellers and learning from them how to take care of flowers.
翻译：What do you usually do when you are doing gardening?
电脑回答：I water the plants and add fertilizers regularly. When the plants are not growing very well, I have to be patient and find a way out. I am really into it. I have bought many books to better my gardening skills.
翻译：What do you learn from doing gardening?
电脑回答：Well, a couple of things. I have become more patient and focused by doing gardening. I’ve learned that the best result will come as long as you pay enough attention to it. What’s more, gardening always cheers me up. Whenever I feel upset, I will go to my balcony and stay with my plants and flowers for a while.

A Sunset Scene
Tom was a successful writer. He had written a play and this play was going to be performed on stage. Not surprisingly, he was invited to give his advice on the scenery, the lighting and all the other things that helped to make the play successful. But Tom was a man very difficult to please, as he had his own ideas of how each thing should look like. In one of the scenes in the play, the young lovers watch the sunset together before singing love songs. So it was necessary to produce the effect of a wonderful sunset. Lighting engineers of the theatre worked very hard to produce the sunset effect. They tried out all kinds of arrangements and combinations of lights—red lights, orange lights, yellow lights, blue lights, lights from above, lights from behind. Yet nothing satisfied Tom. One afternoon in the theatre, when he was feeling sleepy, all of a sudden, he saw the exact effect that he had been dreaming of. Tom was very excited. “That’s it!” he shouted to the lighting engineers working behind the stage. But the chief engineer said he couldn’t keep it like that. In fact, lighting the theatre was on fire.
