Finally, it was time to face the music. I struggled to my feet and slowly approached the door, greeted by a stream of cold air rushing through the opening. As I went along the dimly lit hallway, a sudden gust of wind made me shiver. It's freezing out here, I thought. After what seemed a long time, I reached the office. Through the glass window I could see Mr. Xu in front of his computer, eyes glued to the screen. I could even hear his fingers pounding the keyboard intermittently. After a minute’s hesitation, I pushed the door open. Mr. Xu looked away from his computer, adjusted his glasses, and stared directly into my eyes. My cheeks burned with embarrassment. I already knew what he would say. My heart missed a beat, my mind went blank and my mouth went dry.
