Greece is located at the crossroads of Europe, Asia and Africa. Greece is rich in color, spectacle /ˈspektəkl/ and beauty. It’s the birthplace of democracy /dɪˈmɑ:krəsi/, Western philosophy, drama and the Olympic Games. The stories of this nation stretch back to before history began. Every new year begins with the whole country undergoing a dramatic transformation. Across the country, Greek cities are gearing /ˈgɪrɪŋ/ up for a busy tourist season. One in ten jobs rely on the 33 million visitors that come to Greece every year. And one city attracts more tourists than any other: the capital, Athens /ˈæθənz/

视频对话

W: Hello, Tom. Can you spare me a few minutes?

M: Sure. I’m free right now. I just handed in my chemistry homework. Anything I can help?

W: I’m planning a trip to the national park this summer. Maybe you can give me some suggestions.

M: I’ve been there three times, but the park is so big. I can’t say I know much about it. How long do you plan to stay there?

W: About two or three days.

M: Then you must go diamond hunting in the park. If lucky, you may bring some diamonds back.

三问:

1. 提问:公园里真有钻石吗?

考生翻译:Are there really diamonds in the park?

电脑回答:I’m not very sure, but many visitors go there to try their luck. It only costs seven dollars to enter the national park. For most visitors, diamond hunting is a fun activity, but some people take it as a real job. They even buy monthly tickets to go there every day and hunt for diamonds and other valuable rocks with special tools.

2. 提问:那我要带些什么工具呢?

考生翻译:What tools do I need to take then?

电脑回答:You don’t need to bring any tools of your own. You can rent them at the entrance of the park. You can get almost all kinds of tools there, from knives, brushes to hammers. The rent is quite reasonable. You can also hire a guide at the entrance. The guide can provide information about the value of different rocks.

3. 提问:你在那里找到过钻石吗?

考生翻译:Have you ever found diamonds there?

电脑回答: No, I’ve never found one. But I found some beautiful rocks there and took them home. I cleaned them and put them in the box. To know more about the rocks, I borrowed some books from the library. Whenever I show these rocks to my friends, I’m able to tell them the story behind each rock. They all admire me and call me little rock expert. (

五答:

1. 电脑提问:What did Tom hand in?

考生回答:His chemistry homework.

Part C Retelling (故事复述)

视频原文

An Unexpected Help

Mary admired her brother Tom who was good at painting. Whenever Tom painted, she tried to help a bit, but Tom thought his little sister would just give him trouble. One day, when Tom was painting a picture, Mary stood by and watched. She soon felt bored and went away. Hours past, Tom went out to buy some paints, leaving the picture on the desk. A few minutes later, Mary returned with a bottle of orange juice in her hand. She went up to the desk to see if Tom had finished the picture. Mary watched it closely. It looked beautiful and seemed almost done. Mary thought that one more flower would make the picture perfect. She placed the bottle on the desk and started to paint. Accidentally, she knocked over the bottle. Before she knew what happened, the juice was all over the picture. Mary was frightened. She hurried to clean it up. This caused a greater mess. The picture seemed totally ruined. At that moment, Tom came back. Mary cried and pointed at the picture. Tom looked at it for a while and said happily, “How did you do that? I love it!”

参考答案

Version 1:

Mary respected her brother Tom for his painting abilities, and she would always try to help him out whenever he was painting. However, Tom didn’t think Mary’s assistance would be very helpful, so he often rejected her help. One day, while Tom was painting a picture, Mary was standing nearby, but soon became bored and went away. Tom left to buy more paints, leaving the painting on his desk. When Mary returned with a bottle of orange juice, she saw the almost-finished painting and thought that one more flower would make it perfect. She accidentally spilled the juice on the painting while trying to paint the flower, causing a big mess. When Tom returned, Mary was very upset and showed him the ruined painting. However, to Mary’s surprise, Tom loved it and was very happy with what she had done to the painting.

Version 2:

Mary was fascinated by her brother Tom’s skill at painting. She always wanted to help him, but Tom felt that she would just get in the way. One day, while Tom was painting a picture, Mary stood by to watch. However, she soon got bored and left. Tom left to buy some paints, leaving the picture on the desk. Mary returned a few minutes later with a bottle of orange juice. She wanted to see if Tom had finished the picture, which looked beautiful and almost complete. Mary thought that adding one more flower would make the picture perfect, so she placed the bottle on the desk and started painting. Unfortunately, she accidentally knocked over the bottle, spilling juice all over the picture. Mary panicked and tried to clean it up, making the mess worse. When Tom came back, Mary was crying and pointing at the ruined picture. However, to her surprise, Tom loved it and asked how she had done it.

Version 3:

Mary was fascinated by her brother Tom’s painting skills and always wanted to assist him while he painted. However, Tom thought that Mary would only create problems, so he never let her help. One day, Tom was painting a picture and Mary was watching him. But soon she got bored and left. Tom went out to buy some paints, leaving the painting on the desk. Mary came back with a bottle of orange juice and saw the painting on the desk. She thought the painting was beautiful, but it needed one more flower to make it perfect. She placed the bottle on the desk and started to paint. Unfortunately, she accidentally spilled the juice on the painting, causing a great mess. When Tom returned, Mary was crying and pointing at the painting. But to her surprise, Tom loved the spilled juice and thought it added a beautiful touch to the painting.
